It’s hard to believe how fast the summer racing season went! While many adjectives could be used to describe one of the most fun summers racing with this group of women (fast, hilly, hilarious, challenging, absolute blast), one word that also comes to mind is… profitable.

Cycling is a team sport, and to embrace that, Team SCE decided that race victories were team efforts. Sure, only a few cross the finish line at 1, 2, and 3, but it’s a team effort getting them there. Drafting to help ‘mates recover, attacking to tire the opposition, pacelining the sprinters to the finish line… these are all a part of team racing.

So at the beginning of the season, the team decided to split race winnings at each weekend race amongst those who traveled (thus funding plenty of post-race Chipotle recovery meals!), while putting the Oval weeknight earnings into a “bank” – First National Bank of Barb’s Mattress (hey these are rough times, so this seemed the most stable place of investment, and the fees were right). At the end of the season our team earned $335! So to celebrate, we enjoyed a nice dinner at Tamari! We celebrated our team, and the satisfaction of having trained, raced, and laughed together throughout the season! It’s amazing how far Team SCE has come since Coach Suzanne started this group last year!

Cheers to the SCE women for an outstanding performance! Cheers to our awesome Coach Suzanne who continues to make this all possible! Nice job, everyone!
