Skills Session: Limbo, Elbows, Bridging Gaps

By Coach Suzanne • Dec 29th, 2007 • Category: News

The Saturday before Christmas, about 9 women gathered for drills designed to work on bike handling skills and basic racing skills. I believe it was 29 degrees outside, so the turnout was outstanding!

We did the following drills:

  • Bike Limbo
  • Bumping Elbows
  • Pacelining Warmup
  • Bridging Gaps in a Paceline

The last drill was a real success. I was concerned that with the lack of racing and pacelining experience, the whole group might fall apart. But instead, the women quickly had the hang of the drill, which was to bridge a gap to the front group which was about 100-200 feet ahead. the lead rider then pulled off, and drifted all the way to the back of the 2nd group. The lead rider of the 2nd group would then sprint across the gap to the first group and the cycle repeated.

Overall it was an excellent skills day that everyone seemed to enjoy.
